Recent Work

This painting was developed primarily from imagination. I did several rough pen sketches to determine the composition and the objects to be included. The cantaloupes were a later addition to complete the triad of primary colors (red wine and blue pot). I originally visualized the wine glasses as three parallel red lines distributed across the picture plane. The placement of the cantaloupes was determined by visualizing a second set of three yellow lines, with slightly different spacings, superimposed on the red set to form a more complex linear pattern. I set the viewpoint slightly lower than the table edge in order to soften the impact of this linearity.
